We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels valued and accepted just as they are – regardless of background. We believe that success is built in diverse teams where a sense of belonging and inclusion is strong. Each Veikkaus employee is unique, and we actively work to ensure that everyone can be themselves and feel included at work. 

Caring and working together – every day

Our work on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is guided by our equality and non-discrimination plan. DEI is also closely linked to our values of together and caring

We promote DEI at Veikkaus through employee training, DEI-themed workshops, employee surveys and promoting inclusive recruitment practices. A DEI course has been added to our training offering, including a tailored module for managers. 

We’ve also organised diversity-themed workshops for employees covering topics such as gender, age and language through the lens of inclusion. These workshops aim to raise awareness, engage employees and identify areas for development. 

As internationalisation becomes increasingly important for us, we’re also actively developing our approach to diversity – for example, through inclusive language.

We want to foster an inclusive and discrimination-free workplace, where everyone feels valued and accepted just as they are. That’s why we are taking part in the “Action, Not Only Words” campaign, which challenges organizations to take concrete steps against racism.

We believe that by respecting and promoting human rights, we help build a more sustainable future for everyone. We are committed to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) core principles and rights at work. 

We act responsibly and ethically

Our Code of Conduct outlines how we act responsibly and ethically – it serves as a daily compass for all Veikkaus employees. Responsibility, ethics, and Veikkaus’ values guide our everyday work and are at the heart of everything we do.

We expect the same from our partners

All our suppliers are required to commit to our Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines our expectations regarding respect for human rights, non-discrimination, working conditions, and terms of employment.

Whistleblowing channel

Through Veikkaus Group’s Whistleblowing channel, our employees and representatives of our partners can safely report concerns, suspected misconduct, or violations of our Code of Conduct.

Our most significant human rights impacts

Veikkaus’ operations may impact several stakeholder groups, including customers and employees. We pay special attention to protecting children’s rights by working to prevent gambling-related harm. We recognise these potential impacts and continuously develop our practices to prevent, mitigate and manage them. 

Customers

The most significant human rights risks relate to privacy, equality and non-discrimination, and safety. High-risk gambling may also have serious impacts on health, close relationships, and financial well-being.

How do we mitigate and prevent these impacts?

We protect our customers by monitoring high-risk gambling and taking targeted actions to limit harmful play. We also ensure privacy and data security across all our operations.

Children’s rights

In the context of our business, human rights risks related to children include exposure to gambling advertising across different channels and the indirect impact of gambling-related harm within their close circle. From an employer perspective, key concerns include workplace safety and well-being for parents and guardians, as well as being a child-friendly employer.

How do we mitigate and prevent these impacts?

We protect children from gambling and gambling advertising. Mandatory identification at slot machines has significantly strengthened the prevention of underage gambling. Together with our retail partners, we ensure that minors cannot access gambling using someone else’s credentials, and we pay close attention to responsible marketing.

Employees

The most significant risks relate to working conditions, occupational health and safety, discrimination, and the risk of problem gambling – all of which may affect employees’ rights and well-being.

How do we mitigate and prevent these impacts?

We invest in occupational safety processes and practices that promote health and well-being at work. We regularly conduct employee and equality surveys. We also have an equality and non-discrimination plan in place, along with internal training programs to prevent gambling-related harm.

Supply chain

The most significant human rights risks relate to working conditions and terms of employment, occupational health and safety, as well as discrimination and equality.

How do we mitigate and prevent these impacts?

We require our partners to commit to our Supplier Code of Conduct, to respect human rights, and to operate responsibly and ethically. We assess our partners through audits and sustainability evaluations.

Fair and ethical procurement

Sustainable procurement is an important part of Veikkaus’ sustainability program. For us, it means taking social, economic, and environmental responsibility into account throughout the procurement process. We comply with public procurement legislation and carry out all competitive bidding processes in an open and non-discriminatory manner.
