Veikkaus continues funding for Peluuri service

Veikkaus has agreed with the A-Clinic Foundation and the Blue Ribbon Foundation to continue funding the Peluuri service, which focuses on preventing gambling-related harm, with proceeds from Veikkaus until the end of 2026.

Peluuri has operated in Finland since 2004 and is produced by the A-Clinic Foundation and the Blue Ribbon Foundation. Veikkaus has funded the service since its inception. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has been a partner in the collaboration and is responsible for evaluating the service.

The plan was for Peluuri’s funding to be transferred under the responsibility of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health when the new Gambling Act comes into force. However, the General Government Fiscal Plan (JTS) for 2026–2029 includes no allocation for grants under Chapter 9 of the Act, nor for the new responsibilities proposed for the Ministry.

- Peluuri plays a significant role in the prevention of gambling-related harm and in providing support. It is important to ensure the continuity of the service through the transition period. Veikkaus has been a long-time funder of Peluuri, and we want to take responsibility in this situation. As legislation is being reformed, we hope that society will commit to long-term solutions for gambling harm prevention, and that digital services like Peluuri will remain available, says Susanna Saikkonen, VP, Sustainability at Veikkaus.

- As the availability of gambling increases due to the system reform, it is essential that help and support for gambling problems remain easily accessible. Over the course of its more than 20 years of operation, Peluuri has supported over 30,000 individuals experiencing gambling problems and their loved ones. The services provided by professionals have been available nationwide, free of charge, and anonymously. We hope this will continue in the future as well, says Inka Silvennoinen, Manager at Peluuri Gambling Helpline and eHelp.
