The best workplace

Flexibility, independence, and development – these are the most important things for me in my work. The job has wonderfully adapted alongside my full-time studies, and neither has overshadowed the other. Independence, initiative, as well as the opportunity to learn new things and make decisions related to my work, are key motivators for me. All of this is offered to me through the role of arcade customer service worker.

I also enjoy my work because I like my tasks. I work either in the morning or evening shift, and my duties include tasks such as collecting money from the machines, checking and refilling them, as well as setting up gaming products like scratch cards and taking care of the general comfort of the gaming hall. These tasks are, of course, completed in the morning before the customers arrive. Once the hall opens, I focus on customer service, meaning selling games and interacting with customers. It’s always nice to chat with regulars—those who visit frequently—and the highlight of my workday is when I get to pay out a big surprise win to a customer.

The work environment is very important

In addition to enjoyable tasks, I feel that the work pace is just right for me, and there is always something new happening. We constantly have opportunities for training, the employee benefits are good, and my colleagues are really great. Some have become friends whom I also meet in my free time. New employees are trained and introduced to their tasks very thoroughly, and if I ever have any questions later on, I can always get help from my colleagues and supervisors. I feel that we have a caring workplace where everyone, including top management, is approachable.

I work in Helsinki at Pelaamo Arabia. My workplace is a so-called pilot gaming hall, which has been decorated in a new style. The space is bright, fresh, and light-toned. The new interior design also allows for better interactions with customers than before. I would say that my workplace is almost a perfect 10!

Responsibility is the most important

Of our values, the one closest to me is responsibility. It is visible and present in everything I do. We have made a lot of changes in a short time to make it easier for customers to manage their own gaming. I also think it’s really important that training has been arranged for us employees on how to bring up gaming control or potential gambling issues with customers. The wishes of our customer service staff were listened to, and the training was organized accordingly.

I believe it’s important to be empathetic in customer service. A person should be treated with respect, and it’s essential to understand them and put yourself in their situation. I try to be as open and approachable as possible. I feel that my job has helped me with my shyness. When I’m in my work role, I know what I’m doing and I dare to engage with people. This has also brought me the courage to meet different people, get to know new people, and talk to them in my free time. I feel braver in being my true self.

I started working at Veikkaus in September 2020 after a friend of mine, who worked at Casino Helsinki, spoke highly of their workplace and encouraged me to apply as well.
